PROFILE OF BOBBY CHAN

 

Bobby Chan is a Board Director of CRCA (Zone 3) for 7 years. Since 1999 he is an active participant in table tennis, swimming, snooker and 8 ball. He has medaled for swimming of every Alberta Senior Games and " White Horse " Canada Senior Game. In 2000 he was the one to re-activate " Table Tennis " event to Senior Games. Bobby is the " Table Tennis " Coordinator for Zone 3.

He was born in Hong Kong and educated in English College. After school he worked for Standard Chartered Bank for 28 years. Then he ran his own advertising company for 15 years. When he was young, he participated in many sport tournaments, such as spring board diving, swimming, snooker, 10 pin bowling, soccer, track and field. He won a great many prizes. He won Hong Kong diving championship in 1959. He became diving coach and was promoted to be a head coach in 1990-1993. He supervised 6 City diving pools, training courses and ran many tournaments. He was the diving team leader to arrange the Hong Kong diving representatives to participate in National Diving Meets.

1993 Bobby came to Calgary as a new immigrant. In order to melt into the society, he started as a volunteer at Kerby Centre and the Golden Age Club. He was on the Board as a Director of Golden Age Club from 1997 to 2001, helping the club to form up a table tennis team. Bobby was a founder President of Calgary United Seniors Table Tennis Assn. from 2001-2004, Bobby is also on the Board Directors for Thronview Seniors Assn. From 2003 and is still presently on the Board. At present Bobby is the President of Bobby Chan Seniors Table Tennis Club.

He is also very active in Chinese community. Since 1995 he has been a Board Director of Hong Kong Chinese Immigration Association of Canada and presently Vice President since 2004. February 2006, Bobby received a Certificate of Recognition of Alberta Centennial (1905-2005) for Outstand Service and Contributions to the Calgary Chinese Community from Legislative Assembly of Alberta. 2007亞省長者夏季運動會

Alberta Summer Senior Games已於7月26-29日,一連4天在Fort Saskatchewan舉行, 參予人數高達2,000名,均來自亞省8個地區(Zone 1–Zone 8), 運動員超過1,100位, 全部經各區公開選拔賽中挑選之精英隊伍。 運動項目包括Athletics, Bocce, Contract Bridge, Cribbage, Cycling, Darts, Disc Golf, Floor Curling, Golf, Horseshoes, Lawn Bowling, Military Whist, 8-Ball, Slo-Pitch, Swimming and Tennis。 全隊成員中衹有兩名華人運動員Bobby Chan 及Lily Chan. 兩人與其餘170多名Zone 3卡城代表隊,均不負眾望,共奪取98面獎牌,團体名次, Zone3(卡城)季軍, Zone 5 (Fort Saskatchewan)亞軍, Zone 6 (愛民頓)冠軍。個人成績Bobby Chan今年已是其第五次參予游泳項目,勇奪2面金牌, 50及100公呎蛙式,金牌得主榮獲資格參加2008年在New Brunswick 舉辦之Canada Senior Games(加拿大長者全運會)。Lily Chan亦奪1面銀牌, 50公呎蛙式。希望二人繼續努力,爭取好成績。

亞省長者運動會每年交替舉辦夏季及冬季運動會,而两季所舉辦之項目是完全不相同,如各華人有意參予此類主流社會所舉之長者盛事,請聯絡Bobby Chan 295-9553或860-9838。

2007 Alberta Summer Senior Games
(July 26 – 29)
Fort Saskatchewan

There were over 1,100 participants across Alberta in the game. Zone 3 (Calgary) selected 170 representatives and brought back 98 medals. Our zone won 2nd runners-up.

We want to congratulate Bobby and Lily who were participated in swimming and had outstanding performance. Lily won 1 silver medal in 50 Meter Breaststroke and Bobby won 2 gold medals in 50 and 100 Meter Breaststroke. Bobby will be selected to represent Province to participate Canada Senior Game at New Brunswick in the year 2008.

2007 Alberta 55 Plus Winter Festival
Table Tennis Result

We would like to congratulate our successful table tennis medalists: John Chan, Peter Wong, Kin–Chiu Yung, Bill Poon, Lily Chan, Jennifer Huang, Lida Zhang, Helen Norden and Verla Boyle. They represented Calgary (Zone 3) competition in Vermillion and Wainwright for 2007 Alberta 55 Plus Winter Festival on Feb 20 - 23. Nine of our members won 8 gold, 8 silver and 5 bronze total 21 medals.
